Having worked in education for 20 years, Adam has held all positions from classroom teacher to Senior Leadership, with pretty much everything in between. Gaining his NPQH in 2007, Adam moved from mainstream education to Management of a specialist and highly successful SEMH provision, culminating in a Pearson Teaching Award in 2015. Leading a school from Serious weaknesses to a series of consecutive Outstanding Ofsted classifications, Adam has earned a deserved reputation as an expert in the fields of behaviour modification and management, staff development and training and student engagement. He is guided by his firm belief that no child in unreachable.
Adam has suffered from depression and anxiety for a number of years and with his Blog and Group, Taking off the Mask: Depression and Me, he has gained thousands of followers, who all appreciate his open and honest approach to discussing his own mental health and the incredibly engaging writings relating to it. He is absolutely aware of the impact of pressures faced by school staff and is keen to use his own experiences to increase awareness and understanding of mental health issues in the modern staffroom. His 'warts and all' approach has been acclaimed by all that have heard him speak. Adam is CEO of Taking off the Mask www.takingoffthemask.org (a Non-Profit Organisation offering online support to those struggling with their mental health) and an Ambassador for The Shaw Mind Foundation. He is currently Project Manager for their Bringing Back the Sunshine Programme, which is supporting young people that care for family members with mental health issues.
